Let me start off by saying that I knew the Phillies would win this series. Whether it was just a measly gut feeling, or a significant prediction that was based off the matchups, the Phillies, in my mind, were going to win this series. However, numerous “experts” did not think so.

How many experts said the Dodgers would win this? Well, they were wrong. Jimmy Rollins started game five with a bang by hitting a leadoff home run on a 3-2 count. Cole Hamels, the NLCS MVP was virtually unhittable, pitching his third gem of the postseason. And the Phillies defeated the Dodgers, 5-1, to win the NLCS in five games for its first World Series appearance since 1993.  

The Phillies took advantage of Rafael Furcal’s three errors, all in the fifth inning, to score two runs and cushion their lead. Brad Lidge closed it out for the Phils, even though it was not a save situation.

Next up for the Phils will be either the Rays or the Red Sox. The American League team will have home field advantage, since the AL won the All-Star game. The World Series starts Wednesday night, either in Tampa Bay or Boston.
