For a decade Jim Perry was a main stay in the Twins rotation in the 60's and early 70's at times being teamed with the likes of Jim Kaat, Camilio Pascual and Jim " Mudcat " Grant.

Perry broke in with the Cleveland Indians in 1959 and delivered a 12-10 season with a 2.65 ERA. In 1960 Perry won 18 games but in 1963 he went to Minnesota. Perry was part of the Twins great 1965 American League championship team that lost a tough seven game series to Koufax and Drysdale led Dodgers. That year Jim went 12-7 with a 2.63 ERA.

Perry had great back to back seasons for the Twins in 1969 and 1970 winning 20 games in 1969 and then racking up 24 more in 1970. Finally after ten years with Minnesota, Perry went to Detroit in 1973. That year he posted a 14-13 record with the Tigers. In 1974 he returned to Cleveland where he teamed up with younger brother Gaylord. Jim had a fine 17-12 campaign but part way through 1975 he went to the A's. That was his last season in the Majors.

In all Jim Perry played seventeen seasons and won 215 games. He won 128 of those with the Twins. He was a true workhorse as he pitched over 200 innings eight times. There was a stretch of six straight seasons with 200+. He worked 3,285 innings in his career. He had 109 complete games and hurled 32 shutouts. He fanned 1,576 batters and even saved ten games. He and brother Gaylord combined for 529 big league wins.
