It’s trading deadline time and the value of players may rapidly shift. I’d be shocked to not see some movement among pitchers and outfielders this week so don’t rely too heavily on any pitcher for two starts unless they are playing for a contender. Projected Two Start Pitchers for this Week
Suggested:
You Make the Call:
At the top three hitters parks
At the top three pitchers parks Ratchet Them Up: Juan Pierre (OF, Dodgers): Comes off the DL and looks to get back to his base stealing ways. Activate him if you have him. Tyler Yates (RP, Pirates): Is likely to take over as closer for the Pirates now that Damaso Marte has been traded. Josh Fields (3B, White Sox): The powerful Fields returned to the field over the weekend to take over at third for the injured Joe Crede. Fields is the third baseman of the future and could end up taking the job for good. He hit 23 home runs and hit .244 in 100 games for the Chisox last year. Carlos Marmol (RP, Cubs): Should take any save chances that the Cubs get this week - he’s unlikely to keep the job more than a week though. Mike Hampton (SP, Braves): Will probably have some serious rust after three years of time which was essentially spent on the DL, but his return this weekend could help some team down the stretch. Jason Bartlett (SS, Rays): Returned from the DL. He’s a solid stolen base option having already stolen 18 in just 77 games. Joel Hanrahan (CL, Nationals):  Took over as the Nationals closer. Josh Bard (C, Padres): Returned from the DL. Chris Young (SP, SD): The talented pitcher should return from the DL months after devastating skull injury when a line drive struck him in the head. Physically he’s fine but injuries like these can leave mental scars.Â
Lastings Milledge (OF, Nationals): Returns from the DL and could be an interesting player to watch down the stretch -he was just hitting a stride when he was hurt. Chris Carpenter (SP, Cardinals): is expected back from the DL midweek.Â
Damaso Marte (RP, Yankees): From Pirates closer to Yankees set up guy, his fantasy value takes a big hit with the trade. Carlos Gomez (OF, Twins): Sustained what is described as a lower back injury while making a spectacular catch and smashing into the wall on Friday. He was carried off strapped to a board to immobilize his spine. Hopefully it’s not anything serious but don’t count on him for next week. Chipper Jones (3B, Braves): Seems likely to hit the DL with a strained left hamstring. In any case don’t rely on him for this upcoming week. Kerry Wood (CL, Cubs): Was placed on the 15 day DL, retroactively to July 14, due to a blister. He’s eligible to return midweek Pedro Martinez (SP, Mets): Will likely miss at least one start due to the death of his father. Joey Gathright (OF, Royals): Was placed on the DL with a shoulder injury. Jon Rauch (RP, ): Lost his fantasy value due to the trade from Washington to Arizona. He’ll set up for Brandon Lyons but will probably be the first in line to take over as closer if Lyons falters. Tim Hudson (SP, Braves): Has a sore elbow, watch his next start. Esteban Loaiza (SP, White Sox): Was released by the team. Jorge Posada (C, Yankees): Will continue trying to rehab his ailing shoulder but he could be done for the year. Dustin McGowan (SP, Blue Jays): Is done for the year following surgery to repair a frayed labrum in his right shoulder.
