The Mets get back into the win column by beating the Milwaukee Brewers 1-0. Johan Santana pitched seven scoreless frames, allowing just five singles and no walks, while striking out seven. Yovanni Gallardo nearly matched that, going six shutout innings himself with seven Ks, five hits and two walks. Last year, the Mets pen would have surely blown the game (Heilman, anyone?). This year, however, the Mets scored one runs in the bottom of the seventh and J.J. Putz and K-Rod secured Santana's win. New York stays four games behind the Florida Marlins, who improve to 10-1 on the season by beating the Nationals 9-6 after scoring 3 runs to tie the game in the ninth and then 3 more in the 11th to win it. |
